The Glitterfest was, once again, a wonderful show! So many talented artists under one roof was truly inspiring. If you did not get a chance to go, well, maybe you can live vicariously through the following photos and then plan to go to the next one on March 19, 2011.
I got there a bit early and there was already quite a line of people waiting to get in. Like last time, someone came around passing out cookies so we could keep our strength up. Finally the doors opened and the line started to move. This event is held at the Elks Lodge in Santa Ana and as I got near the door, I saw this:
Now, I didn't know that nomads had keys or that they even returned them! But I guess it is so, if you figure that I was a bit of a nomad over the summer and yes, I had a key. I kept mine, though.
When you went inside, there was a wonderful Halloween display:
Someone had a lot of fun putting that together and also did a lot of work on it.
There were so many people that I waiting until it finally cleared out a bit to get some booth photos. It was hard to get near some tables, which was great to see this show so well attended.
Dana Primavera was there with her very beautiful handmade books:
I bought one! I will show you the purchases in a minute. But more about the show!
Lisa Loria was there (you may remember her from the trunk show last weekend).
And I saw Robin Dudley-Howes there too! Here is a photo of her table. She was talking with someone so I didn't get a photo of her this time. Beautiful things! And if you get a chance to take a class with her, you will be sure to have a wonderful time.
I really love the bottles and hope she repeats this class sometime.
There were so many beautiful and inspiring displays:
Andrea Harris-Jacobs was there and was wearing, without a doubt, the very best outfit:
I think you already know how I feel about hats. Well, Andrea's hat was a feathered delight. Wonderful.
She has some of the coolest handmade dolls.
And now, perhaps you would like to see some of my purchases. Here is the book I bought from Dana:
I have big plans for this book. It has watercolor paper inside and since I have wanted to get back to my drawing and painting, it will be fun to fill this book with all sorts of images that stir around in my head.
It does seem it was a day for books. But really, everyday is a day for books! This is a different shaped book that I think will be very nice for calligraphy. I hope the paper is right for it, but it seemed to be.
Some inks just behave strangely, but I have lots of ink so I am sure I will find a bottle that works for the pages. Here is the inside:
I also bought a pair of earrings from this artist, Joann Doxakis:
She really had some lovely things.
And I bought this pair of fun earrings from Susan's Charming Trinkets:
Little Marie Antoinette earrings! They are made from shrink plastic so are lightweight. She had some very interesting work. I loved the earrings and bracelets! She had a great Salvador Dali bracelet and all sorts of fun pieces.
I did buy a few more keys and a couple of buttons, too. It was a fantastic show! So, plan to go next time, if you didn't get go this time. Fun.
Tomorrow, I will be teaching a class, The Venus Flytrap Bracelet, at Beadology. If you are free and want to take a fun beadweaving class, then I hope to see you there!
I hope everyone is having a great weekend!
Hi Melanie,
Someone told me they say this post, so I had to check it out :) I Love Dana's books, they were awesome! Thank you for stopping by my table and for your purchases. Maybe I'll see you around town - I believe we live close by. Enjoy, JoAnn
