Hello to All!
Yesterday was a very fun day. I went to my friend Irene's shop, The Garden of Beaden in Upland. She had a book signing and demonstration from the authors of the book A Charming Exchange. This was extremely exciting, fun and very inspiring. Here is a photo of Ruth and Kelly. This was after Ruth had demonstrated a few techniques from the book and during the book signing.
The also had the work from the book, which was really wonderful. It was mixed media, something I've been really interested in for a while but just had trouble getting started with. I think with this book, I will have no trouble. The pieces in the book were done by a group of artists, like a round robin or an exchange. This fall, the pieces will be auctioned off and the money donated to breast cancer research. They have a website/blog A Charming Exchange where you can keep up on not only this upcoming auction but all the fun things they are working on.
Here is a photo of one side of the table that had the pieces from the book:
I love the antler head and also the dress. Ruth does some wonderful art pieces with dresses. She has had articles in Quilting Arts and Cloth, Paper, Scissors several times.
I am very excited about getting this book and meeting these very talented artists.
I bought a couple pairs of earrings, too, and here is a photo of them:
I really like the way they are presented with the old photo. This event made for a very fun Sunday! A big thanks to Irene for putting this together!
I have a few boxes of stuff that I've been saving for mixed media projects. One is labled "Pack Rat Stuff", one is labled "Ephemera" and another is labled "Flotsam." Now all I need is time!
I hope everyone had a great weekend!
