So this morning, I started out in rain, but it wasn't so cold and it only lasted about 75 miles or so. Then the rain was spotty and finally ended up in nice warm sunshine. I headed for the St. Paul area where I am staying with friends.
They took me to a town by the St. Croix river and here they are, Jason and Jenny:
They took me to the beautiful town of Stillwater, the oldest town in Minnesota.
This storefront is owned by a family member that owned the original house from the famous painting "American Gothic."
We walked by the river, which is up quite high, as you can see from the stone type things sticking up out of the water. This is actually a walkway that is now flooded:
And look, they have for hire: Gondola Romantica!
And here I am by the St. Croix:
And then we went to caves used during the prohibition times by Al Capone. Now it is a restaurant called Luna Rossa. They were kind enough to turn on the lights so I could get a photo.
Now the whole restaurant is not a cave, this is just a portion. I thought this was very fascinating and it had the cool, damp smell of caves, if you have ever been in one.
